This is the master list we give every Great Adventure trekker. Not every item applies to every trip — a short cultural trip to Shigar Valley needs a fraction of what a 3-week Baltoro expedition does, and the Gondogoro La items only apply if your itinerary crosses that pass. When in doubt, ask us before you buy.

Documents & money

Clothing — layering system

Footwear

Broken-in, over-the-ankle hiking boots Lightweight camp shoes / sandals Gaiters (for moraine, scree and snow)

Do not bring brand-new boots. The Baltoro glacier is uneven rock moraine for days at a time — unbroken-in boots are the single biggest cause of trek-ending blisters.

Sleeping & camping

Sleeping bag rated to at least -15°C (we can also arrange rental) Sleeping bag liner Inflatable sleeping mat / pillow Headlamp + spare batteries

Trekking gear

Trekking poles 40–50L daypack with rain cover Duffel bag for porters (waterproof or with a liner) Water bottles or hydration bladder (2–3L capacity) Water purification tablets/filter Sunglasses with UV/glacier protection Sunscreen (SPF 50+) & lip balm with SPF Small padlock for your duffel Dry bags for electronics & documents

Health & first aid

Only if your route crosses Gondogoro La

Applies to our Gondogoro La Crossing trek. Not needed for a standard base camp trek.

This equipment is used for a single descent day on the pass. We can arrange rental gear in Skardu if you'd rather not travel with your own — just mention it when you enquire.
